aespa Confesses That They Thought SM Entertainment's Casting Directors Were Con-Artists

On May 22, SM Entertainment's rookie girl group, aespa, appeared in an episode of 1theK Original's IDDP to share facts about and stories about themselves, as well as their latest song, "Next Level."

They started off by searching about themselves of Namuwiki, a Korean wiki based in Paraguay, and read off facts about the group, such as aespa's debut date and that their concept of being active in a universe where they will meet their other selves through an avatar - called æ - and experience a new world. In addition, aespa is also the first girl group for SM Culture Universe to mark the beginning of a new future.

They also read that Ningning was the first member introduced to the public through SM Rookies, while the remaining three members, Giselle, Karina, and Winter, were undisclosed trainees.

Winter explains that when she first joined SM Entertainment, Ningning was disclosed as one of the SM Rookies a few days later, to which Winter felt like she was watching a celebrity.

Moving forward into Namuwiki, aespa read a fact that said Giselle joined SM Entertainment through auditions, and that Ningning, Winter, and Karina were scouted by casting directors from the company. Not only that, but all three members thought that they had met a con-artist.

Winter apologized first, then said, "They really do approach like con-artists," to which the members all agreed. Winter then added that if someone approached to cast you and they felt like a con artist, it's most likely SM Entertainment.

According to the group, the casting directors don't tell you the name of the company in which they are casting you - even when they call you, they never tell you the company name. "We have to get suspicious," Winter said.

Meanwhile, aespa made their comeback with their new single, "Next Level," on Monday, May 17 at 6 pm KST. Their latest song is said to be a remake of the 2019 song by A$ton Wyld that was featured in the popular Western film "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw," which is a hip-hop banger with groovy raps and powerful vocals.
