BLACKPINK's 'BOOMBAYAH' Becomes the Group's Third MV to Hit 1.2 Billion Views

BLACKPINK's debut song "BOOMBAYAH" has reached a new milestone on YouTube after accumulating more and more views for the past months.

BLACKPINK's "BOOMBAYAH" Reaches 1.2 Billion Views on YouTube

On June 8 at 10:29 a.m. KST, the music video for "BOOMBAYAH" by Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé has surpassed 1.2 billion views on YouTube.

This milestone was achieved in 124 days after it reached 1.1 billion views this past February.

BLACKPINK's "BOOMBAYAH" music video was released on Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. KST. This means the MV took four years, nine months, 30 days, and 14 hours to reach 1.2 billion views.

The fact that the YouTube views for "BOOMBAYAH" keep on rising every three to four months proves the global popularity of BLACKPINK.

With this new YouTube feat, BLACKPINK now has three music videos with more than 1.2 billion views. Prior to "BOOMBAYAH," the MVs for "DDU-DU DDU-DU" and "Kill This Love" reached the 1.2 billion mark.

"DDU-DU DDU-DU" and "Kill This Love" have also recently exceeded 1.6 billion views and 1.3 billion views, respectively.

What's more, "BOOMBAYAH" by Rosé, Lisa, Jennie, and Jisoo is now the most-viewed K-pop debut music video of all time, and the first K-pop debut MV to score 1.2 billion YouTube views.

"BOOMBAYAH" is one of the double title tracks of BLACKPINK's debut single album "SQUARE ONE," the other song being "Whistle." It has an addicting chorus and an exciting drum beat, captivating global music fans and gaining steady popularity.

BLACKPINK's debut song remains popular not only on YouTube but on Spotify as well. The track is about to reach 300 million streams on the platform.

The quartet has even recently exceeded 22.1 million followers on Spotify. They have garnered more than 4.3 million new followers this 2021 alone. With this, they remain the most-followed female act and Korean female artist on the platform.

BLACKPINK Becomes the First K-pop Girl Group to Achieve This Remarkable Feat on MelOn

On June 7, MelOn revealed the weekly chart for the week of May 31 to June 6. BLACKPINK has two entries on the chart: "Lovesick Girls" at No. 29 and "How You Like That" at No. 64.

"Lovesick Girls" have already spent 36 weeks inside MelOn's Top 100, while "How You Like That" has been charting for 50 weeks.

"How You Like That" is now BLACKPINK's fourth song to rank inside the Top 100 of MelOn's weekly chart for a total of 50 weeks, following "Playing With Fire," "As If It's Your Last," and "DDU-DU DDU-DU."

"How You Like That" has now tied with "DDU-DU DDU-DU" with exact 50 weeks. While "Playing With Fire" spent 51 weeks, "As If It's Your Last" lasted for 65 weeks on the MelOn chart.

Because of this, BLACKPINK is now the first K-pop girl group to have four songs spend 50 weeks inside MelOn Weekly Chart Top 100.

The other K-pop girl groups with tracks to have spent 50 weeks on MelOn Top 100 are TWICE (3), Oh M Girl (2), Red Velvet (2), GFRIEND (1), and MAMAMOO (1).
