NCT Renjun Slammed for Calling Baekdu Mountain as Changbai Mountain

NCT members Renjun and Chenle, two Chinese members under NCT Dream, are currently under fire after posting congratulatory posts in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Last year, Renjun appeared on a radio program and was asked for recommendations to travel to Jilin, China, Renjun's hometown. Renjun then recommended fans eat hot pot in Wusong Island and visit Jilin's famous ice skating ring.

He then recommended fans visit Changbai Mountain, which he says is really famous in Jilin and is very visually pleasing. He recommends visiting the mountain and trying to eat hot spring eggs, which you can only eat in hot springs in the area.

Changbai Mountain, known as Baekdu Mountain in South Korea, is a major maintain range in Asia. The mountain extended from the Chinese provinces of Hell0ongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning, all the way across the border between China and North Korea.

Finally, the mountain reaches the North Korean regions of Ryanggang and Chagang.

Renjun was born in Jilin, a province of China that borders North Korea and Russia. In ancient times, the area was ruled by the Korean kingdoms of Buyer, Goguryeo, and Balhae.

Due to its relation with Korea, many of the inhabitants have Korean ancestors, and the language is taught in school.

Renjun, in particular, has been rumored to be of Korean descent, as he studied in the Jilin Korean Ethnic Minority Experiment school from elementary to some parts of his high school. Because of this, many are outraged that the idol would refer to Baekdu Mountain by its Chinese name.

The idol was criticized online by the public, saying that he should be more careful of his words. As he is a Chinese idol working in South Korea and profiting from the South Korean market, it is believed that he should speak more carefully and refrain from making political statements due to the two nation's messy relationship.
