NCT 127 Scores First Daesang at the 31st Seoul Music Awards + Johnny's Speech Sparks Laughter
NCT 127 has bagged their very first Daesang at the 31st Seoul Music Awards, and, in the group's acceptance speech, band member Johnny said his iconic line that made fans laugh hard.

On Jan. 23, the 31st Seoul Music Awards took place at the Gocheok Sky Dome, and it was hosted by Kim Sung Joo, AOA Seolhyun, and Boom.
One of the winners this year is NCT 127, who earned the "triple million seller" title last year with their third studio album "Sticker" and its repackaged version "Favorite."

Surprisingly, NCT 127 claimed the Daesang, marking their very first time to take home the grand prize at the Seoul Music Awards since their debut. The boy group also won a Bonsang (Main Award).
In NCT 127's Daesang speech, team leader Taeyong said that they didn't expect it but they were moved at having received such a major award. He also expressed his gratitude to SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo Man and all the staff members.
Taeyong also stated that NCT 127 receiving the Daesang at the 31st Seoul Music Awards would not have been possible without the "cool, amazing, energetic and talented" members.

While tearing up, Doyoung shared that he has been dreaming for a long time of receiving the Daesang. "Thank you for giving us such a big award. This is all because of the fans," he added. He also grabbed the opportunity to thank the members' parents.
Johnny continued NCT 127's Daesang speech by also thanking his and the members' parents. He first said in Korean, "Just like Doyoung, I want to thank our parents." He then unexpectedly shouted in English, "Mama! We made it!
Since Johnny said it out of the blue, some of his fellow NCT 127 members can be seen surprised. His bandmates then applauded him.

After the 31st Seoul Music Awards, NCT 127 held an Instagram live, and when Johnny was holding the phone, the members were teasing him for shouting "Mama! We made it!"

Numerous fans also reacted to the incident, and as a result, "MAMA WE MADE IT" trended on Twitter with over 26,000 tweets. The phrase peaked at No. 14 on the worldwide trends and entered the trending topics in the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia.

"Mama! We made it!" (or "Mom! We made it!") has become NCT 127 Johnny's iconic line as he has been saying this in the past years in several vlogs or variety shows.

NCT 127's Awards at Previous Seoul Music Awards
In the past years since they made their debut, NCT 127 has been bagging trophies at the Seoul Music Awards.
NCT 127's first award at the SMA was in 2017 when they took home the New Artist of the Year. They won this alongside BLACKPINK and I.O.I.
In 2018 and 2019, the boy group won TikTok Dance Performance Award and Bonsang (Main Award) respectively. They claimed another Bonsang in 2021.
Overall, NCT 127 has six trophies from the Seoul Music Awards, three of which are a Bonsang and one is a Daesang.
