YG Entertainment officially announced in early February that the group will make their long-awaited return with a new song. This track will be the boys' first music release in four years and will mark their first activity as a four-member band.

T.O.P told Prestige that BIGBANG's comeback song will contain a message to the fans, along with some messages about why he's on a break from the group.
As previously reported, the "FANTASTIC BABY" rapper left YG Entertainment to widen the scope of his individual activities. He even announced his plans to release his debut solo album, which is only a part of his plans as a solo artist.

Since he will pay more attention to his solo activities this time, it seems like it will be a long time before BIGBANG makes a full-group comeback again.
"Being super honest with the fans, I really don't want to say this is my last," T.O.P said to Prestige. "But even more frankly, it might be a long while until I come back as T.O.P of BIGBANG."

He continued that the BIGBANG members' music tastes and activities possibly "differed a lot" over those five years when they were on hiatus as a group. And because of these differences, he would like to focus on himself and take on new challenges.
But, BIGBANG T.O.P said that he's always open for a reunion, adding that he loves his group and has a personal connection with every member.

In addition to BIGBANG's comeback song, T.O.P also mentioned the possibility of creating an idol group in the future with Prestige.

The rapper talked about the K-pop system, wherein entertainment companies train aspiring idols "just like robots." He then said that he doesn't want to be a robot maker. "I want to make a real artist and help real artists," he stated.
BIGBANG T.O.P further said that he might make an idol group down the road. "I'm positive about making a group that's completely different from BIGBANG in the future."

As the interview with Prestige went on, T.O.P teased his solo album. He said that "you'll be surprised" and that there will be many different genres included in the album. "All the songs are from my pure heart - I spent a lot of sweat and effort to make this album possible," he said.
The "BANG BANG BANG" rapper also unveiled that his solo album will couple with a feature film production. Regarding the other details about his forthcoming releases, they will remain a secret, for now.
