Did WJSN Meiqi Plagiarize Taylor Swift?
Chinese female idol Meng Meiqi, an inactive member of WJSN, has made her solo comeback on April 2 with "Suffering."
Following its release, the music video for "Suffering" entered the top seven hot searches in China, receiving much attention from internet users.
Following the music video's release, the female idol was immediately accused of plagiarizing Taylor Swift's super hit single, "Look What You Made Me Do."

People pointed out that there were too many similarities between the music video of the Chinese female idol with the music video of Taylor Swift's 2017 release.
Notably, three major scenes were compared to Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" music video. One scene shows Meng Meiqi above people who are reaching out to her. This was compared to a scene in Taylor Swift's music video, where she stands over the bodies of her past self.

In another scene, Meng Meiqi is wearing a red dress, sitting in an intricate seat. This was compared to another scene in "Look What You Made Me Do," where Taylor Swift was seated on a gold throne while wearing a red gown.

Another scene that was brought up shows Meng Meiqi trapped in a black cage. In "Look What You Made Me Do," Taylor Swift was trapped in a cage, but hers was gold.

Meng Meiqi was criticized for her latest release, with many flooding the female idol with negative comments.
Some comments concerning Meng Meiqi's release read, "She isn't even worthy of being compared to Taylor Swift," "She is so shameless," "It couldn't get more similar," and "Don't bring in Taylor Swift's name to your mess."
Why Are People Hating Meng Meiqi?
Meng Meiqi is one of the most famous female idols in China. At the start of her career, she promoted in South Korea as a member of WJSN but returned to China in 2018.

While once beloved, she was embroiled in homewrecking rumors in October 2021.
In October 2021, Meng Meiqi was accused by the girlfriend of music director Cheng Ling Tao of homewrecking their four-year relationship. The former girlfriend of Cheng Ling Tao added photos of conversations between the two to prove her statement.

Yuehua Entertainment (Meng Meiqi's label) denied all claims following the accusations. However, Cheng Ling Tao apologized for his actions.
