Korea Singers Association President Pleads for BTS to Reconsider Group Hiatus

On June 22, the Korea Singers Association issued an official press statement by Lee Ja Yeon, currently the association's president, to express their thoughts on BTS' recent decision to go on an indefinite hiatus from group promotions.

In the press statement, Lee Ja Yeon expressed their fear and concern over the "BTS Hallyu Wave" diminishing during the group's hiatus, and with BTS' impact all over the world, it could also cause the "heartbeat of Hallyu to cease."

"I am overcome by my fear and concern that the 'BTS Hallyu Wave,' a movement that possesses the greatest cultural soft power the world has ever witnessed, will vanish soon. In the years leading up to the birth of this movement, it was believed that finding the 'Next Beatles' would be a very difficult achievement," Lee Ja Yeon said.

She continued, "And now, we have come to a point where it is difficult for the 'Next BTS' to emerge any time soon. Thus, there is a great concern that the heartbeat of Hallyu will cease."

Lee Ja Yeon then pleads for BTS and HYBE to reconsider their decision for a group hiatus, saying,"The decision to publish this statement was not an easy one. Please, will you reconsider your decision to go on a group hiatus, for the future of the music industry in South Korea?"

Lee Ja Yeon also mentions ARMYs, BTS's fandom, and their impact on spreading Hallyu and the Korean culture. As the "missionaries of Hallyu and Korean culture," Lee Ja Yeon believes ARMYs would also go away as BTS is on hiatus, thus posing a threat to the country's tourism.

"If BTS goes away, the missionaries of Hallyu and Korean culture, ARMYs, would also go away. As a result, South Korea's tourism industry would suffer, and it will be difficult to hope for a future for South Korea as a hub for culture in Asia," she said.

Lee Ja Yeon Asks for Revision of Military Laws Amid BTS' Pending Service

"The South Korean government and national assembly must pay mind to this matter so that Hallyu blooms and can continue to spread, and so BTS can continue to actively promote as a group. Please pursue a revision of existing military service laws," Lee Ja Yeon requests.

Meanwhile, BTS recently released their anthology album "Proof" on June 10. Following the celebration of their ninth debut anniversary, the group announced their decision to take an indefinite hiatus from group activities to focus on solo promotions.
