WINNER Hilariously 'Changes' Group Leader and Begins New Era Under New Leadership

On July 11, WINNER's label YG Entertainment announced that member and leader Yoon would be halting his activities and promotions with the group in the meantime due to an ankle injury.

The WINNER member had reportedly sustained an ankle injury during their concern "Holiday in the City," which was held back on July 10. According to Yoon's doctor, it was confirmed that he suffered an ankle ligament injury.

Although Yoon's injury is not major and will not pose a big inconvenience to his daily routine, he was recommended to monitor his injury closely and to have enough rest in order to make a full and speedy recovery.

In accordance with the doctor's recommendation, Yoon decided to take a break from WINNER's activities. In addition, the rest of the members, Song Mino, Hoony, and Jinu, will also be taking a break from this week's music programs that would require them to perform.

Following the news of Yoon's ankle injury, Hoony took to their Weverse on July 12 to share with fans his KakaoTalk chat with the rest of his members.

In the photo, the WINNER members can be seen chatting to decide who their new leader will be as Yoon was injured. Ultimately, Hoony was voted to become the "new leader."

The conversation reads:

Song Mino (Mino): "Since Kang Seungyoon (Yoon) hurt his leg"

Song Mino: "Who wants to become the next leader."

Song Mino: "Hurting your leg is enough to be disqualified as the [group] leader."

Kim Jinwoo (Jinu): "I nominate Lee Seunghoon (Hoony)."

Song Mino: "Okay, one vote for leader Lee Seunghoon."

Lee Seunghoon: "I will make a new era for WINNER without any lateness."

WINNER's Leader 'Change' Sparks Laughter

WINNER had explained in the past that it is an old tradition for them to change their leader when the leader gets hurt. The old tradition first began from the competition program "WIN: Who Is Next."

While the leader change is not official and is likely only to be temporary until Yoon makes a recovery, it has become a running joke between the group and fans. Hoony even went on to say that under his leadership, a "new era" for WINNER will begin.
