ATEEZ's Choreographer Calls Out 'SMF' Vata Amid 'Say My Name' Choreography Plagiarism Issue

ATEEZ's choreographer has spoken up on the ongoing controversy over a popular dance move in the boy group's "Say My Name" choreography that was plagiarized by WDBZ Vata during a performance on "Street Man Fighter."

ATEEZ's Choreographer Calls Out 'SMF' Vata Amid 'Say My Name' Choreography Plagiarism Issue

Dancer Vata, a member and the leader of We Dem Boyz (WDBZ) dance crew, is currently embroiled in a plagiarism controversy after fans noticed a familiar dance move in his choreography during a challenge on Mnet's "Street Man Fighter" (SMF).

Fans claimed that it is pretty much identical to the iconic "driving" dance move in ATEEZ's "Say My Name," which was released back in 2019.

ATEEZ's fans, collectively called ATINY, have since been calling out "SMF" Vata and demanding that he apologize to the boy group and the choreographers, as well as credit them for that particular dance move.

Even ATEEZ Wooyoung is aware of the issue, and he seemingly called out Vata on stage during the group's performance at KCON 2022 Saudi Arabia. He did the "biting" gesture that is used to call someone out for copying another dancer's choreography.

Wooyoung did the "biting" gesture once more on a different occasion, together with some of the dance moves from the "New Thing" choreography made by the "SMF" contestant.

Now, amid the plagiarism issue, one of ATEEZ's choreographers responsible for the "driving" dance move for "Say My Name" has joined the discussions.

On Oct. 10, Anze Skrube took to his Instagram stories to share reports from other people showing their support of Wooyoung, ATEEZ, and their choreographers, as well as calling out WDBZ Vata.

His stories included the video that has been circulating explaining what "biting" is, together with someone's post expressing their confusion over why Vata, who is said to be a friend of ATEEZ San, would appearingly plagiarize their choreography.

Anze also posted a screenshot of a message he received about the ongoing issue, and another person's post about "SMF" Vata hating other dancers copying his dance move but he "literally" copied others' work.

As of this writing, WDBZ Vata still has not released an official statement to respond to the plagiarism controversy.
