Rain’s ‘DOMESTIC’ Accused of Plagiarizing THIS American Song

Rain recently released the song "DOMESTIC" for "Street Man Fighter." Following its release, the song was accused of plagiarizing a song from an American rapper. Keep on reading for all the details.

Rain's 'DOMESTIC' Speculated To Have Plagiarized American Rapper's Song

On October 18, Rain released the song "DOMESTIC" for "Street Man Fighter," also known as "SMF." Following its release, the introduction of the song was accused of plagiarizing American rapper Armani White's "BILLIE EILISH."

"DOMESTIC" was released as the semi-final song for "Street Man Fighter," and dance crew We Dem Boyz created the choreography. However, the plagiarism controversy has overshadowed the song's intent.

"DOMESTIC" and "BILLIE EILISH" are both of the hip-hop genre. However, people pointed out that it is difficult to find a difference between the hook (highlight of the song) and the prelude between the two tracks. Several people claimed that "BILLIE EILISH" immediately came to mind the moment they heard "DOMESTIC."

The music industry recently suffered after Yoo Hee Yeol was accused of plagiarism. In June, the singer was accused of copying Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Aqua" following the release of his song "Very Private Night." Yoo Hee Yeol ultimately acknowledged the similarity between the two songs.

Ryuichi Sakamoto never took legal action against Yoo Hee Yeol. However, many expressed disappointment in the singer for staying silent on the accusations for an extended period before his apology. This is the biggest issue for an artist caught plagiarizing: the backlash from the public.

This is also not the first time someone involved with "SMF" was accused of plagiarism. Earlier this month, dancer Vata of "We Dem Boyz" was accused of plagiarizing the dance of ATEEZ's "Say My Name" for Zico's "New Thing" choreography.

Rain & Mnet Comment on 'DOMESTIC' Plagiarism Rumors

South Korean media outlet Ten Asia reached out to Rain's label, RainCompany, for a comment on the situation.

They said,

"The song is not sampled. We just received the song from a composer who collaborated with Mnet. Both songs can be considered similar since they are both of the 'Arab hip-hop' genre."

Ten Asia also reached out CJ ENM for comment.

They said,

"The composer Caesar participated in composing 'DOMESTIC' for 'SMF.' The arrangement of the string instruments at the beginning of the song is similar, but it is a coincidence"
