2022 MAMA Awards Asked to Explain Why TWICE Failed to Win in Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10
On Nov. 29, the first day of the 2022 MAMA Awards took place at Osaka's Kyocera Dome, with female K-pop soloist Jeon Somi serving as the host.
On that day, the awards given were the Yogibo Worldwide Icon of the Year (Daesang), Favorite New Artist, and the Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10 (Bonsang).

Of these three categories, the Worldwide Icon of the Year and the Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10 were based on fan votes (50%), Spotify streams (10%, and music video views (10%).
A pre-voting took place from Oct. 24 to Nov. 4 to determine the finalists (Top 20), and then, the main voting ran from Nov. 10 to Nov. 24 to determine the Top 10 winning artists.
In the end, the winners in the Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10 category at the 2022 MAMA Awards are BLACKPINK, BTS, GOT7, NCT Dream, ENHYPEN, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, TXT, TREASURE, and PSY.

While some fandoms were rejoicing the win of their favorite artists, ONCE (TWICE's fandom) was expressing their fury on social media because TWICE was not included in the final top 10.
The reason is that the nine-member girl group was predicted to win, as they were among the ten artists leading in terms of the combined scores of the Mnet Plus Votes and the number of MV views.
In particular, TWICE stayed strong in the top 10 on the MAMA Awards website, where the 50% of the total votes came from. When the votes from the MV views were included, they ranked 10th, according to the chart the fans provided.

When it comes to the number of streams on Spotify, ONCE pointed out that TWICE was one of the candidates with the most streams, following BLACKPINK and BTS.
Because of the positive results gained from their hard work and effort, fans were expecting the JYP girl group to win in the category. However, they ended up being disappointed.
Among the Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10 winners, ONCE is questioning the victory of veteran singer PSY. They explained that PSY was the nominee with the least Mnet Plus votes, making him rank last (20th). He was also not in the top 15 when the votes from the MV views were counted in the total score.
Fans doubt that the "Gangnam Style" singer earned higher votes from Spotify than TWICE. Based on the chart the fans provided, PSY only ranked seventh in terms of Spotify streams.
What angered fans more is that TWICE's "Cheer Up" was performed at the 2022 MAMA Awards by the top fourth-generation K-pop girl groups and yet the awards ceremony "rigged" the votes, resulting in TWICE's loss in the said category.
As a result, ONCE is demanding MAMA Awards to explain why the JYP girl group didn't win and also to reveal the total scores of the nominees. The fandom is currently trending the phrase "MAMA RESPECT TWICE" and the hashtag "#MAMArigged" because of the unexpected results.
Onces!! lets do fandom hugs🥺 we never get tired do voting for our girls but if the results are rigged then it gets really tired. EXPLAIN THIS MNET!

We demand MAMA Awards to reveal the full breakdown of their result (Spotify, MV Views, Website). This isn’t just any award, but it signifies both effort of the artists and fans! MAMA RESPECT TWICE @MnetMAMA#MAMArigged #RespectTWICE

MAMA RESPECT TWICE! Stop using their name if you keep on disrespecting them and not giving their well deserved wins. Their fandom didn't give their all to vote on your website just for you to robbed them and give the award to other artist who's not even half of the votes we have!

My girls deserve better. They're top 10 on voting, they got the views on YouTube and streams on Spotify. The award is literally called Worldwide Fans' Choice, but it was given to the one who got the least vote. It doesn't make any sense.
