In online communities and SNS, netizens and K-pop enthusiasts are arguing whether MAMAMOO Hwasa's recent gesture at a university festival was "obscene" or "cool."

The controversial performance took place during a festival held at Sungkyunkwan University - Humanities Campus. In particular, on May 12, Kim Wan Sun, Uhm Jung Hwa, Lee Hyori, BoA and Hwasa performed at the event as part of its tvN's entertainment show, "Dancing Queens on the Road."

As a brief background, the program unfolds a national tour concert held by the five aforementioned nation's top female artists. Amid popularity, they continue to be dance artists, travel around the country and meet as well as enjoy various interactions with fans in person.

At the festival then, Hwasa performed MAMAMOO medley stages such as "Decalcomanie," "Egotistic," "Starry Night," "Dingga" and "HIP," drawing positive responses and applause from the audience.

It was going well and the idol has been receiving rave reviews until she showcased a stage for "Don't Give" featuring rapper Loco. Hwasa started the song with a sultry atmosphere that viewers' liked a lot.

However, there is a gesture that didn't sit well with a lot of netizens, and this is when she licked her other hand that wasn't holding the mic with her tongue and swiped it to her private part.

Regarding Hwasa's performance, netizens immediately drew divided opinions about whether her action was cool or obscene.

Some people called her out and said that she was being "too much" especially since the performance was being filmed for a national television broadcast. Although children aren't the main market of the show, netters are concerned that her "obscene" act could be watched by kids on other streaming or social media platforms.
