In a radio interview, Red Velvet hinted at their relationship with their agency, SM Entertainment. From their music direction to contract renewal, the quintet gave meaningful responses.

Red Velvet Shares Treatment of SM During 'Chill Kill' Comeback

On November 23, the 10-year-old girl group Red Velvet appeared as a guest on SBS Power FM's "Cultwo Show," and promoted their recently released album, "Chill Kill."

On this day, the quintet (comprised of Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri) revealed stories during their comeback preparation, also mentioning how SM Entertainment treated them with "great respect" for this release.

According to the members, before the release of its third full-length album, "Chill Kill" on November 13, they had several meetings with the company. At the time, the members, especially Joy actively participated and presented a lot of ideas for its first studio album in six years.

Joy explained:

"As the company has changed to a center system, there are many areas where we have to participate in."

Hearing this, DJ Kim Tae Gyun asked whether there was a clash between the company and members' ideas, but Joy refuted it and showed satisfaction with their label.

DJ Kim asked:

"Isn't there a case where the song chosen by the company and the artist is different? Then, don't you go in the direction that the boss chooses?"

Joy responded:

"Originally, we went for the direction that the company wanted, but (this time) they listened to us a lot in the direction that we wanted."

A ReVeluv who's tuning in the broadcast showed appreciation then, commenting:

"I heard you picked the title song yourself, but it's a complete level (Red Velvet) song."

Red Velvet Reacts After Mention of Contract Renewal

Meanwhile, Red Velvet gave a meaningful laugh when their contract renewal with SM was mentioned.

At the time, Muzie threw a joke:

"You're not going to do everything (that we want)? All right ~ See you at the renewal of the contract. I'll remember it~"

Hearing this, Red Velvet let out a meaningful loud laugh without making any statement.

In particular, there is a rumor that the members would leave SM Entertainment when it was reported that only Seulgi, so far, renewed her contract with the company in August.

There is also speculation that Red Velvet will disband after Red Velvet's SNS bio was changed from "Red Velvet Official" to "Happy Ending." This sparked a parting ways rumor, although it was later clarified that it was only part of the comeback promotion.

On the other hand, Red Velvet released its third full-length album "Chill Kill" on the 13th. It is their first full-length album in six years since "Perfect Velvet," which was released in 2017. The album consists of a total of 10 songs with various charms, including the title song of the same name.

As part of their promotional activities, Red Velvet appeared on YouTube's "Killing Voice" ahead of its comeback and recorded 6 million views in just a week. They also set a new record by having a video with a duration of 34 minutes, the longest running time in 'Killing Voice' history. Irene surprised by saying, "It was originally 40 minutes."
