NCT Jaemin Accused of Smoking Indoors

Following SM Entertainment's apology after NCT's Haechan was seen smoking indoors, another member is being brought to the spotlight: Jaemin.

On January 11, 2024, a post titled "NCT's Jaemin also smoked indoors" was posted to a South Korean online community forum. The author of the post shared several GIFs that allegedly showed Jaemin smoking indoors while the members were recording. The GIFs are from 2021, while NCT 2020 was filming "Make a Wish."

In the GIFs, Jaemin is seen with his back facing the camera, as other members took the majority of the frame. Behind the members, he is seen bringing his fingers to his mouth. Soon after, smoke is seen coming out of his mouth, next to his ear.

After the post was uploaded, NCTzens quickly defended the idol and debunked all rumors that the idol was smoking indoors.

NCTzens Debunk Rumors that NCT Jaemin Smoked Indoors

Fans stated that after he brought his hand to his mouth, he quickly put his hand in his pockets. If he were smoking a cigarette, that would be impossible to do, as it would burn a hole in his outfit. While some questioned that he could be smoking an e-cigarette or vaping, NCTzens debunked this theory as well.

They claimed that the way he positioned his hand was not how someone would hold a cigarette or a vape. His fingers appeared to be folded on top of one another rather than clinging to an object. Instead, it looks like he was scratching his nose or flicking something with his hand.

Many stated that the boys were filming during the winter. As they were in their stage costumes, they were not properly equipped to handle the cold. Because of that, when Jaemin breathed out, a puff of smoke came out of his mouth. It was also argued that if it was a puff from smoking, SM Entertainment would have edited it out.

When others stated they could see something in Jaemin's hands, NCTzens zoomed in closer and discovered that it was just the reflection of his ring.

NCTzens hope that the false rumors against Jaemin will stop. Others also urged fans of Haechan to not divert hate toward Jaemin, as the two are close friends and co-members.
