Earlier in February 2023, rumors of a remake of the hit 2006 drama have been circulating among internet users and fans. In October then, K-media confirmed that "Group Eight" production company is set to embark on a rebooted drama for "Princess Hours."

It is expected to start production in early 2024 and to air in the second half of the year. While there is news that actors have been auditioning for the project, internet users are skeptical that K-pop idols will be picked to play the cast.

Among them, only one female idol is mentioned to be perfect for the role.

As a quick background, the 2006 drama is based on a manhwa set in an alternate 21st century Korea where monarchy still exists, and was written by Park So Hee.

The story revolves around Shin Chae Kyung (Yoon Eun Hye), who is an ordinary student whose life changed 360 degrees after finding out she was betrothed to the nation's crown prince, Lee Shin (Ju Ji Hoon).

Fans want to see actual actresses like Kim Hye Yoon, Shin Ye Eun, Roh Jeong Ui, Go Younjung & Kim Yoojung play the bubble role of Chae Kyung, who contributed to why the drama was loved around the globe.

For drama fans, idols shouldn't be cast for the main roles due to their acting skills, fearing that it would turn out to be the quality of web dramas instead.

However, some people are in favor of it, pointing out that even Yoon Eun Hye, a former Baby V.O.X member was once an idol as well.
