IU & BLACKPINK Fraudster Who Sold Hundred of Millions of Fake Concert Tickets Faces 6-Year Prison Sentence

In a recent development, a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. Kim, has been handed a six-year prison sentence by Judge Lee Jong-min of the Seoul Central District Court.

This sentencing comes in the wake of Mr. Kim's elaborate scamming scheme, wherein he exploited the enthusiasm of K-pop fans by falsely selling concert tickets of popular artists such as IU and BLACKPINK.

Extensive Fraudulent Activities Unearthed

Mr. Kim's fraudulent activities extended to more than 130 instances, as he strategically utilized direct trading applications and online communities to dupe unsuspecting victims.

The scope of his deception included advertisements falsely claiming to sell concert tickets for a range of renowned singers, among them Lim Young Woong, BLACKPINK, and IU. This sophisticated scheme allowed him to illegitimately amass hundreds of millions of won.

Concert Ticket Scams: A Profitable Endeavor

In the months spanning May to August 2022, Mr. Kim focused his deceptive efforts on Lim Young-woong's concert tickets. Through approximately 80 transactions, he succeeded in scamming over 200 million won (approximately 150,000 USD). However, his criminal pursuits did not end there.

Financial Fraud Escalates to Credit Card Exploitation

Expanding his fraudulent repertoire in 2022, Mr. Kim targeted fans by offering to transfer IU concert tickets. In a sinister turn, he not only deceived them but also obtained their credit card information, subsequently applying for card loans.

From concert tickets to camera sales, game money recharge, and department store gift cards, he cunningly swindled a total of 496.44 million won (approximately 363,000 USD) from 31 unsuspecting victims.

Court Decries Unethical Conduct

In response to Mr. Kim's reprehensible actions, the Seoul Central District Court issued a stern statement, asserting the impropriety of his criminal conduct.
