The first official announcement regarding RM's enlistment was made on November 22, 2023.
In the statement, BIGHIT MUSIC shared that four BTS members, namely RM, Jungkook, V, and Jimin would simultaneously enlist and follow members Jin, J-Hope, and Suga.
The agency revealed that the four members have initiated the process for enlistment. Moreover, it also encouraged fans to give their warm support to the four members.
"We kindly ask you for your love and support for RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, until they've completed their military service," BIGHIT MUSIC stated.

On December 10, RM uploaded a handwritten note, which brought ARMYs to tears. The rapper openly spoke his thoughts regarding his enlistment and his unwavering love for his fans.
"Before I leave, rather than thinking about the countless words that linger, our future will be told by the time, love, and sincerity we have for each other." RM wrote. "I want to become someone who's always on your side, even if I'm not there."

On December 28, various online communities caught wind of RM's photos in the military camp, alongside bandmate V.

On February 15, netizens gathered in an online community, which discussed RM's presence in the military. In the post, the original author uploaded a photo of the idol wearing a bright red uniform and holding a saxophone.
The OP also stated that RM had joined the 15th division's military band and that the photo was captured by someone present during the graduation ceremony.
"Military Band of the 15th Division (Saxophone)," OP stated. "It was taken by someone who attended the graduation ceremony yesterday."
