Following the initial reports, both JYP Entertainment, Chaeyoung's agency, and THEBLACKLABEL, Zion.T's agency, stated they would investigate the matter. Shortly thereafter, JYP Entertainment confirmed the relationship, stating they were dating with good intentions and were supportive of one another.

The two bonded as trainees who are close in age, with Chaeyoung born in 1999 and Jeon Somi in 2001. They both competed on "SIXTEEN" in 2015, and though Jeon Somi failed to make the cut to debut with TWICE, the two are still close.
