SM Entertainment has officially canceled Taeyeon'ssolo concerts in Tokyo, originally scheduled for April 19 and 20 at Ariake Arena.
The announcement was made on April 29, confirming that there will be no rescheduled dates and that all ticket holders will receive full refunds.
The concerts, part of Taeyeon's "The TENSE" Asia tour, were first postponed just two days before the scheduled performances. At the time, SM Entertainment explained that essential equipment for the show had not arrived in Japan, making it impossible to proceed as planned. The company initially hoped to find an alternative venue or solution but ultimately decided to cancel the Tokyo concerts entirely due to ongoing difficulties securing a suitable location and maintaining the concert's production quality.
"We deeply apologize to all the fans who had been looking forward to the performance. We exhausted every possible option, which unfortunately delayed this update. We sincerely ask for your understanding and once again extend our heartfelt apologies," the agency said in an official statement.
SM Entertainment has reiterated that all purchased tickets will be refunded in full. Fans are encouraged to check their purchase platforms for updates on the refund process. The company has not announced any replacement dates for the canceled Tokyo concerts.
Taeyeon is a South Korean singer who first gained fame as the leader and main vocalist of Girls' Generation, one of K-pop's most influential groups. Debuting in 2007, she helped lead the group to national and international stardom with chart-topping hits like "Gee" and "I Got a Boy."
In 2015, Taeyeon launched her solo career with the mini-album, I, and since then, she has been recognized for her successful solo releases, collaborations, and sold-out concerts.
The canceled Tokyo concerts were part of Taeyeon's sixth solo tour, "The TENSE," which marks her return to the stage after nearly two years. This Asia tour was organized to promote her two recent EPs, To. X (2023) and Letter to Myself (2024), and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her solo debut.
