Police have decided to drop attempted murder and aggravated assault charges against South Korean actress Nana, concluding she acted in self-defense during a November home invasion.

The Guri Police Station announced its decision on January 16, determining that Nana's actions were necessary to protect herself and her family from danger. The case drew public attention after the suspect filed a countersuit against the actress while in detention, claiming she injured him without cause.

The incident occurred on November 15, 2025, when a man in his 30s broke into Nana's home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, carrying a weapon, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily. Using a ladder to reach the building's balcony, he forced his way inside and threatened both Nana and her mother while demanding money and valuables. The intruder assaulted Nana's mother by choking her, according to investigators.

Nana woke up after hearing her mother's screams and intervened to stop the attack. During the physical struggle that followed, the man sustained a cut to his jaw from his own weapon. Both Nana and her mother were injured in the confrontation, with her mother requiring hospital treatment for strangulation injuries.

Police initially recognized Nana's actions as self-defense and arrested the man on robbery and assault charges, mk reported. However, while detained, the suspect filed a complaint accusing Nana of attempted murder and aggravated assault, claiming he had been stabbed without justification. He alleged in handwritten letters that he had not carried a weapon and that Nana struck him with a household object.

The suspect's claims contradicted police findings. Investigators confirmed he entered the home with a knife in a sheath and threatened the victims while refusing to drop the weapon during the struggle. Nana's agency, Sublime, rejected his accusations and stated they would pursue legal action against him for filing false claims.

In response to the case, Nana shared that she has been carrying pepper spray since the home robbery attempt and expressed determination to move forward. Her agency criticized the suspect for exploiting her celebrity status to cause additional harm, as per Koreaboo.

Prosecutors did not pursue charges against Nana, and the case was dismissed after police concluded her defensive actions fell within the legal scope of self-protection.
