SISTAR Grand Slams, Who's Going to Stop Them?

It wouldn't be an exaggeration if you said that music ranking programs in the last week of June were SISTAR's programs. With their second single 'Give It To Me,' they conquered all five music programs broadcast from Wednesday through Sunday.

First, there was the ascent on Wednesday (26th) and Thursday (27th)'s cable TV music ranking programs MBC Music's "Show! Champion" and Mnet's "M Countdown." On Friday (28th) they took first place on KBS's "Music Bank" and on Saturday (29th), MBC's "Show! Music Central" as well as SBS's "Inkigayo," which aired on the last day of the month. Taking first place in all the programs, they received the honor of taking home five trophies.

SISTAR has previously won first place with 'Give It To Me' on "M Countdown," "Show! Music Central," and "Inkigayo," sweeping eigh trophies in total. They are also the only group to have ranked on MBC and SBS's weekend music programs to then go onto rise to the top on a total of five network and cable music programs in the next week. (Psy's 'Gentleman' and Shinhwa's 'This Love,' which tied for first place in the same week on four programs, are considered second place.)

SISTAR debuted in early June of 2010 with the single 'Push Push' and within 3 years, erupted in popularity and has been compared to top groups like Girls' Generation, 2NE1, KARA, Wonder Girls. As pointed out in a previous column, the group broke from the stereotype 'SISTAR = Strong Sound,' and it is worth noting that they've made an eye-opening progress in album sales, like other top class girl groups.

Members Bo-Ra and Hyorin's duo SISTAR19 swept the charts earlier in the year with 'Have and Don't Have,' which became one of the greatest hits of early 2013. The fact that they are expected to rise to the top with 'Give It To Me' is proof that they are one of the most successful performers of 2013.

As of now, 'Give It To Me''s popularity continues on music charts, and it is curious whether they will continue their solo act on music programs in the first week of July. Whether or not someone will be able to stop their ruthless popularity parade, July has already started.
