Winter Storm New York Update; Nika Expected To Cause State-By-State Devastation; New York Snow And Whole Northeast Already Affected By Snow Storm

If you are from the Northeast and have plans for the week, as much as possible, try to cancel them off as the area is expecting a snow storm.

The International Business Times reported that Nika, the 14th storm named by the Weather Channel for this season could potentially bring more snow and "is expected to drop on the U.S. Northeast, Great Lakes and the Plains just days after Winter Storm Maximus dumped several inches over a wide swath of the country."

"Nika will quickly shift from out of the Plains and head for the southern Great Lakes and Ohio Valley on Tuesday, delivering a widespread swath of snow, sleet and freezing rain along the way," Weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce said.

"Some cities could see more than six inches of snow. Tuesday night into Wednesday, this wintry mess will spread into the Northeast," he added.

"Heavy snow is possible from upstate New York into central and northern New England, with a wintry mix farther south."

On Monday, people from New Jersey, New York, and other nearby states already felt the wrath of the snow storm. The wintry weather has delayed the air travel of thousands of fans who watched the Super Bowl Championship between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. Around 1,900 flights going in and out of the United States have been cancelled due to the storm by 5:00 PM on Monday. Most of these cancellations were from LaGuardia, Newark Liberty International, and Philadelphia International airports.

"Monday morning is one of the busiest times for air travel -- business travelers pack flights as they start the week," Daniel Baker, FlightAware's chief executive officer, wrote to CNN via e-mail.

"With tens of thousands of Super Bowl fans planning to return home on Monday, there's not a lot of available seats to accommodate everyone who was displaced in the wave of canceled flights this morning."
