K-Pop Indie Spotlight: Spacecowboy Has Us 'Falling' For His New Single And EP

In the Korean music industry it is all too easy to get lost amongst the bright lights and catchy tunes of mainstream idols like Girls' Generation, Big Bang, or EXO.

Peel back the layers and it becomes overwhelmingly obvious that just below the surface there is a whole other side to Korean music, one that isn't backed by major labels but certainly packs a mighty punch.

For those looking for something a little outside of the box, the K-Indie scene is a thriving array of diverse genres and sounds with some of the most creative artistic minds in music today.

One such talent is electro-pop artist Spacecowboy who dropped his latest EP, Extremely, on March 5.

The lead single from the five-track mini-album is "Falling" a smooth mellow tune that features hip-hop group Soul Drive.

Taking his music in a totally new direction with the most recent project, Spacecowboy explores more subtle sounds in "Falling" incorporating soothing vocals and an easy piano melody.

An emotional tune, "Falling" explores feelings of loneliness and sorrow at the end of a relationship.

The insertion of Vito's rap verse adds a hard edge to the song raising melancholic feelings and bridging into the climactic frenzy of electro sounds Spacecowboy is known for.

The music video is shot in black and white helping to express the sadness of the lyrics and visually is easily among this year's best Korean art-film music videos. It was directed by Park Junsoo of CAMP Entertainment.

"Falling" and the full EP Extremely are available for purchase on iTunes in addition to Spacecowboy's previous album The Universe and last spring's single album It's Over. Fans may also download or stream the new album via MelOn.

Spacecowboy is signed to the Space Sound label and Extremely was released under license to 1theK (formerly LOEN Music).
