Nick Cannon To Produce K-Pop Centered Nickelodeon Show 'The Drop'

Nick Cannon is co-producing a Nickelodeon television show that is quickly becoming known as K Pop High.

The half-hour musical comedy will officially be called The Drop, and will take place at an international boarding school. The show will revolve around three students there who discover that they all are interested in K-Pop.

Casting for the show's lead stars has yet to be announced, but production is likely to begin in December 2014 or early January 2015.

NCredible Entertainment, the entertainment company that Nick Cannon founded in 2009, produces Teen Nick Top 10, a music video countdown show now in its third season.

As soon as news about The Drop started spreading on the Internet, K-Pop fans grew excited and nervous about how the show would portray the genre and its followers. One KpopStarz writer, penned an open letter addressed to Nick Cannon about what she thought would be possible problems with the show.

K-Pop has been featured on American television shows before, such as Glee, Selfie, and America's Next Top Model after the music genre made global headlines following the overwhelming success of PSY's "Gangnam Style."

American broadcasting companies, including NBC, ABC, and FOX networks, have bought the rights to several Korean television shows and will be producing a string of remakes in upcoing months and years. ABC bought the rights to create its own version of the successful drama You Who Came From The Stars, while FOX is adapting the hit Reply series, and will be set in 1999.

NBC is set to remake the variety shows, Grandpa Over Flowers and Hidden Singer. These announcements come on the heels of NBC bringing back the variety show format with the announcement of Neil Patrick Harris' new show. Variety shows haven't been popular in America for several years.

It Is unknown when The Drop will premiere on Nickelodeon.
