Girls' Generation, Beast Top Japanese Charts In April

TVXQ and Kara once dominated Japanese music charts, but in April 2015, two different Korean acts are topping charts.

SM Entertainment's girl group Girls' Generation and Cube Entertainment's boy band Beast both flew to the top of several music charts in Japan. Each of the two groups has spent time promoting in Japan, and the latest wave of popularity comes on the tail of lengthy careers.

Beast's "Hands Up" and Girls' Generation's latest concert DVD took over Japanese charts, reported the Korean Herald.

Beast's song "Hands Up," released on April 6, debuted as the number one track on iTunes Japan shortly after being released.

The six member Korean group formed an independent Japanese label, Beast Music, in 2015 in order to focus more on Japanese promotions. Beast announced that they would release one song each month for several months. Their March-release Japanese track, "One," also achieved number one on iTunes Japan.

Girls' Generation's concert DVD appeared on multiple Japanese Oricon charts after its March 1 release date.

According to SM Entertainment, "The Best Live at Tokyo Dome" appeared in the number one spot on both Oricon's DVD and Blu-ray disk charts.

Girls' Generation held its first solo concert in Japan at the Tokyo Dome on December 9.

The news regarding Girls' Generation's concert video success comes shortly ahead of the girl group's first comeback as an eight member act, following the departure of former member Jessica in 2015. Japanese-language song "Catch Me If You Can" will be released in both Japan and Korea in April; the music video will be released on April 10.
