K-netz Defend Red Velvet After Their Performance Was Edited Out From TV Rerun of the 2020 Gangnam Festival

On November 2, Monday, fans were shocked to find that Red Velvet was edited out of the TV re-run of the SBS 'ON TACT 2020 Gangnam Festival Yeongdong-Ddaro K-Pop Concert'. While initial reactions leaned towards SBS's side, Korean netizens are now defending Red Velvet from their removal from the re-run. Read more about it here!

Red Velvet performed their hit-song 'Psycho,' 'Bad Boy,' and 'Umpah Umpah' during the music festival, and appeared during the live streaming of the performance on SBS's official YouTube channel, 'SBS KPOP'. However, during the television re-run, SBS had deleted their whole segment and skipped right to the festival's ending. Many had speculated that it was due to member Irene's recent bad behavior controversy.

When criticized over their decision, SBS announced that they did so because the allotted time of the television re-run was not enough compared to the concert's actual length. Because of that, they edited out Red Velvet so that the concert's length would fit into the re-run.

International fans were furious over SBS's chose to edit out Red Velvet's whole set. At the time, they said that it was unnecessary to remove their performance, as the other three members performing were not involved in the scandal. They also said it was unnecessary, as people already knew Red Velvet had performed and was part of the line-up. Additionally, they called out SBS to be disrespectful to the fans and Red Velvet, as there was no announcement that they would edit out Red Velvet from the re-run.

At the time, numerous Korean netizens had defended SBS and their decision. They claimed that it was because of Irene's scandal and that they had no choice. Many also say that SBS had most probably consulted SM Entertainment before choosing to delete Red Velvet from the television re-run. Others said that it was not SBS being malicious and that it makes sense to delete the potentially controversial parts. Lastly, some had stated that if anyone was to blame, it would be Irene.

However, many Korean netizens have spoken up to express disappointment over SBS's decision to remove Red Velvet's segment from the re-run. Many agreed that it was unfair to the other members who had no scandal and compared the prejudice people have against girl groups.
