NMIXX's Choreography for 'O.O' Draws Attention for Being Similar to Xu Jiaqi's Signature Dance Move

JYP Entertainment officially debuted their highly-anticipated new girl group, NMIXX, back on February 22 with their debut track "O.O."

The seven-member girl group has since then been dominating music charts and media outlets, and has been the talk of the town.

However, NMIXX's debut has also been mired with controversies and mixed reactions from fans, such as the quality of their "O.O" song being questions, and being entangled in accusations of plagiarism due to their "O.O" music video concept and visuals, which are similar to ATEEZ's "Pirate" music video.

In addition, they also sparked controversy for wearing outfits that copy the design of a foreign streetwear brand called FRISKMEGOOD, with the brand's designer Cierra Boyd calling out the issue.

But now, NMIXX is once again embroiled in another plagiarism issue following the group's first dance performance on the variety program "Weekly Idol" and its Episode 556.

Here, viewers pointed out that the point dance move for "O.O" looked similar to Chinese singer and former member of "Youth With You" project girl group THE9, Xu Jiaqi's signature and viral dance move "scorpion leg."

Xu Jiaqi and her "scorpion leg" dance move for the song "Lion" became viral and was turned into a dance challenge on the popular short video platform, Tiktok.

As NMIXX features the same dance movie in "O.O," many have begun to suspect that the group's choreographer plagiarized Xu Jiaqi signature move.

Fans Defend NMIXX From 'O.O' Choreography Plagiarism Accusations

However, NMIXX fans have come forward to defend the girl group, citing that the "scorpion leg" dance move had been performed by labelmate senior, TWICE's Momo, back in 2018 during the KBS Gayo Daechukje.

In addition, fans have also reasoned out that such dance moves is not uncommon, and that there are also similar dance moves among K-Pop, with each having their own distinctive feature.

Others pointed out that some may just be nitpicking the rookie girl group because they are easier targets considering they just made their debut a few days ago.

Meanwhile, NMIXX made their debut with their single album "Ad Mare," which features tracks "Tank" and "O.O."
