After a year and two months of absence, (G)I-DLE finally came back with five members with "TOMBOY." To promote the song, (G)I-DLE performed on "M Countdown" on March 17. The performance is attracting attention, specifically because Soyeon injured her hand while performing.

As the performance reached its end, Soyeon was seen strutting towards the camera. She then shocked viewers by punching the camera, smashing the lens with her fans. The moment surprised viewers, however, many loved the girl crush energy the (G)I-DLE leader exuded.

After the camera was punched, the cameraman positioned the camera to the ground as if he had fallen. Soyeon was seen squatting down, posing before walking away in front of the camera. The other (G)I-DLE members were seen gracefully posing behind the broken camera.

The same day of the performance, (G)I-DLE held an online fansign in collaboration with KTOWN4U. During the fansign, a Malaysian fan asked Soyeon if she actually punched the camera during the "M Countdown" performance. In response, Soyeon lifted up her hand, showing off her injured first.

The idol hit the camera lens with her bare hands, which needed to be bandaged. However, it is most likely she punched a transparent film instead of the actual camera. According to the fan at the fansign, Soyeon suffered a mild sprain due to the punch.
