Line Distribution of (G)I-DLE ‘TOMBOY’ Continues to Draw Flak — Here’s Why

(G)I-DLE Soyeon Criticized for Taking Most Lines in 'TOMBOY'

On March 14, (G)I-DLE officially made a comeback with the studio album "I NEVER DIE" and its lead single "TOMBOY." This is (G)I-DLE's first comeback in over a year. This is also the girl group's first time making a comeback since Soojin left the group due to accusations of school violence.

In the past, (G)I-DLE has been criticized for their uneven line distribution. As the group has been reduced to five members, fans expected the line distribution to even out.

However, people were disappointed that the division of lines did not appear to improve compared to their previous comebacks.

The writer and producer of "TOMBOY," Soyeon, had the most lines, singing 35.13% of the song. Compared to their previous comeback, "HWAA," Soyeon had a more significant percentage of lines in "TOMBOY."

Though Soyeon is known as the ace of (G)I-DLE, many are upset that she did not distribute the lines fairly. As the writer and producer of the song, people believe that she should have given her members a bigger chance to shine by giving them more lines.

(G)I-DLE Shuhua & Miyeon's Line Distribution Disappoints Neverlands

In most of (G)I-DLE's comebacks, Shuhua has ranked last in the line distribution. However, for "TOMBOY," she ranked second, with 21.81% of the song. However, many are still not happy with her lines.

This is because, though her voice is heard more prominently in this song than in other (G)I-DLE songs, most of her lines come from her singing "La la la" during the bridge. As it is not an actual sentence or line, many believe Shuhua still deserved to sing more.

Many were also upset that Miyeon only sang 10.44% of the song. This is because Miyeon is not only the visual of the group but also the main vocal. People believe she should have been given more lines to showcase her voice as the main vocal.

Others believe Soyeon should have given some of her vocal parts during the first verse to one of the other four members — Shuhua, Minnie, Yuqi or Miyeon.

Some comments regarding the line distribution read, "Is it possible to decrease Soeyon's lines?" "Shuhua only sang one verse, the rest are all 'La la la,'" "It's not fair that Soyeon sings the most. She already composes the song," "Give Miyeon more lines, she is talented too," and "There are only five members in the group, but they can't divide the line distribution equally."
