EXO Xiumin Continues To Make Waves Following 'Harsh But True' Advice To Aspiring Idols: 'He has the right to say such things'

EXO Xiumin is still making buzz with his "harsh" advice to aspiring K-pop idols regarding live singing.

Here's what people are saying about the "Cream Soda" singer.

EXO Xiumin Reveals Live Singing's Impactful Role in K-pop Industry

The singer has the right to impart his wisdom regarding live vocals.

EXO member Xiumin appeared on the fifth episode of "NCT Universe: LASTART," SM Entertainment's ongoing survival show. There, Xiumin took on the mentor role for the trainees, and helped them polish their next performance stage.

Xiumin instantly caught the attention of the K-pop community for not just guiding the trainees perform their dances well, but for also imparting an advice that can help them excel as a K-pop idol. This advice tackled the topic of live singing.

According to Xiumin, vocal skills must be prioritized over dance skills. This is because how many people tend to look at idols as talentless if they sang poorly on stage, no matter how talented they are in dancing or any other aspects.

Xiumin stated:

"Honestly, dancing is less important. The most important thing (when performing) is singing. If you're not good at singing (live), no matter how good you are in dancing, you will look talentless."

On August 27, netizens couldn't help but agree on the idol's remark. The author captioned how the advice was timely due to numerous fourth-gen idols being criticized in their encore stages.

This was followed by the comments of other stans, who agreed with Xiumin and that he has the right to give such advice since he's one of K-pop's aces. Others also pointed out what it really means to be an idol in the industry.

Read their comments below:

  • "If you're bad at singing and only good at dancing, then you're just a dancer. It also makes me wonder why they're even called 'idols.'"
  • "For real, Xiumin really seems experienced. I watched that video and you can tell his seniority when he was giving feedback on the trainees after their filming session."
  • "He has the right to say such things."
  • "They are singers no doubt, so of course, singing is more important."
  • "If you cannot sing and can only dance, then you're just a dancer. If you're blessed to be in a main-dancer category, you should be at least average in vocals."

Some voiced out how many fans just want their faves to be able to sing their lines properly, while others stated that live singing should be the bare minimum.

  • "Fans act like people who their faves to be Mariah or Whitney level, when they just want them to ably sing their two little lines correctly on beat."
  • "You can see how far K-pop has fallen when topics like this is considered controversial."

Live vocals are a must in the K-pop industry, where performances and singing are heavily involved. This is also one of the most discussed topics by fans, who thread or evaluate idols' live vocal performances especially during encore stages.

In other news, the importance of live singing was also highlighted by J.Y. Park himself, who conveyed that the idols who will most likely survive at the end are the ones who are able to sing live while dancing.
