Review: Music Video For 'Inconvenient Truth' By Big Mama's Lee Ji Young And Han Hae Of Phantom Features Graphic Murder Scenes [VIDEO]

You've never seen a music video like this before.

Featuring a graphic depiction of fatal strangulation and the killer's anguish directly following it, Lee Ji Young's "Inconvenient Truth" featuring Han Hae of South Korean hip hop trio Phantom is a clip like no other.

The video is focused on a man, who we realize through the use of a non-linear timeline, killed his lover--not exactly a standard plot for a pop music clip.

Opening with the heavy breathing of the killer and a close up his face. The "Inconvenient Truth" video is immediately arresting.

And it only gets heavier from there.

We see the murderer standing over his lover's corpse, even lying in the same bed, and you watch him lose his mind as the realization sets in about what he did.

There are several graphic flashbacks in the "Inconvenient Truth" video, with the music stopping entirely at one point to show a strangulation scene more graphic than some horror films.

The song itself has a creepy edge to it that works as a backdrop for the video's dark subject matter.

Phantom lays down verses that have the razor sharp attack of Eminem, the prefect compliment to Lee Ji Young's gospel-infused vocals.

The song, which was produced Choi Gab Won as the third selection in "The Lyrics" project, feels like a trip to hell, in the best possible way.

Choi may have even created a new genre of music here--horror R&B; or perhaps horroR&B? Whatever you call it, it's original.

R&B music, the soundtrack of countless bedrooms across the planet, is not typically this dark.

And what of the lyrics?

Although they lack the shocking nature of the images in the "Inconvenient Truth" video there is an interesting quality to the way Lee is singing about a breakup.

Instead of concentrating on the usual heartbreak covered in pop songs "I remember when..." or "please take me back," the lyrics on the odd adjustments that follow lost love.

Odd details like "when I eat alone I can't hold the spoon well. I think of your face," offer a vivid depiction of what it's like to start over again after a failed romance.

Although the words in "Inconvenient Truth" may not reflect what is happening on the screen, the haunted quality of the writing and the intensity of Lee Ji Young and Han Hae's performances, allow the music and images to fit together seamlessly.
