Se7en And Sangchu Sentenced To 10 Days In Military Jail For Visiting Erotic Massage Parlors: 5 Other PR Agents Incarcerated

K-pop singers and soldiers in the South Korean Army, Se7en and Sangchu were sentenced to 10-days in military jail on Thursday, after a camera crew from the news program "Scene 21" caught them entering a massage parlor known for providing erotic services after curfew last month.

"The two that entered massage parlors first went to a Chinese and then a Thai parlor to receive massages but they were closed so they went to two that operated at night but left them as soon as they realized they were decadent establishments," said one anonymous Defense Ministry official, according to the website TENASIA.

"We've judged that they were there just to get massages, not for sexual trafficking, but they were handed military prison sentences because they violated several military regulations."

Five other active recruits previously serving as PR agents were sentenced to four-day incarceration at the military prison or "guardhouse" for using cellphones in the "Scene 21" footage, according to the Korea Star Daily.

The eighth PR agent, reportedly an army corporal charged with leaving his post after curfew, will be put on disciplinary confinement for 10 days.

The incident prompted the elimination of what the country's Defense Media Agency called the Promotional Support Brigade, after several of its official PR agents were filmed wandering the streets after curfew out of uniform, chatting on their cellphones and purchasing alcohol at 2 a.m. after performing at an army-sanctioned concert.

The official Ministry of Defense-sanctioned program provided a way for famous enlisted soldiers to continue to receive the star treatment since its establishment in 1997, according to published reports.

"After our investigations, we have decided to do away with our PR unit," a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense said at the July 18 press conference.

"The misdemeanors of the PR soldiers have seriously affected the morale in the army. The unit was meant to represent and promote the army, and the trust of the people is of utmost importance. But with so many problematic issues, the PR unit has lost the trust of the people."

All eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35, famous or not, are legally required to enroll for between 21 and 24 months of army service in South Korea (the length of mandatory enrollment changes by several months depending on which branch of the military that they serve in) in a practice known as conscription.

"The promotional support brigade was set up to promote the military and raise the morale of soldiers, but due to the unpleasant issues that have occurred, the military's image has only been tarnished," read an official army statement, according to the publication Star News.
