Red Velvet Comeback Confirmed Amidst SM Entertainment Controversy

After having a long promotional period with "Happiness," the ladies of Red Velvet will be returning with a follow-up single despite the recent controversies surrounding the group.

Recently, it's been confirmed that Red Velvet will be releasing a digital single titled "Be Natural," a remake of former SM Entertainment girl group S.E.S.'s song by the same name. However, much like reactions to their debut, the group is facing skepticism and criticism before the single has even been released.

"SM should stop giving their artists remake songs," commented NickRishna on allkpop. "Almost half of TaeTiSeo's songs in 'Holler' were remakes."

"Why do I feel like SM is using them as a cover-up when the company messes up?" wrote CLroo on October 7. "They debuted in the middle of fans' wrath against Sulli's hiatus. Now that SM messed up Girls' Generation they are having a comeback with a remake song."

Prior to their debut, Red Velvet faced severe backlash due to the abrupt end to SM's previous active group f(x), after promoting for only three weeks. Since then, Sulli has remained inactive as a member of f(x) and failed to perform at the SMTOWN Live World Tour IV in Tokyo last week.

And just prior to their comeback, Red Velvet is also coming off of the intense controversy surrounding the sudden departure of Jessica from Girls' Generation. The timing may prove difficult for fans of SM Entertainment's girl groups.

"I have received great pain and cannot hide my sadness that I was asked by [SM Entertainment] and my fellow members, who I've spent 15 years with, putting in all my passion and effort, to leave Girls' Generation, just because I'm starting a business," said Jessica in a statement released through her fashion company, BLANC.

"I also want to apologize for causing concern to all the fans. Please understand that this situation is not at all what I had wanted, and that I've always treasured Girls' Generation, and that I will continue to do so. Thank you for always supporting and loving me."

Red Velvet's rendition of "Be Natural" will be released digitally on October 13.
