'Godzilla 2' To Reveal New Monsters In Release Date; Legendary Has Own Cinematic Universe

"Godillza 2" monsters to be revealed in new release date announced by Legendary.

Below are the three monsters confirmed to appear in the follow-up to last year's mega blockbuster.

First is Mothra, a moth-like monster that appeared in 1964's "Mothra vs. Godzilla" will appear in the reboot sequel.

Rodan, a dragon-like creature has the special ability of emitting powerful shockwaves when he flies; the beast made his first appearance in 1956.

Finally, King Ghidora, the franchise's first villain which turned Godzilla into an antihero. The monster first appeared in "Ghidora: the Three-Headed Monster" 1964.

Legendary has officially confirmed the "Godzilla 2" monsters and the movie's release date.

"Warner Bros. and Legendary released Godzilla in May 2014 with an agreement to release Godzilla 2 on June 8, 2018. Both films feature the human Monarch organization," reads Legendary's press release. "Shortly following Legendary's pact with NBC Universal, Legendary acquired rights to additional classic characters from Toho's Godzilla universe, including Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah."

Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla" reboot became such a box office success that the studio already locked him down for "Godzilla 2." The sequel's release will be followed by "Kong: Skull Island," and now Screen Rant confirms that Warner has added a "Godzilla vs. Kong" the their slate.

"Audiences really responded to Godzilla," Thomas Tull, Legendary CEO said in a statement. "Today, I'm excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I've always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we're pleased to be announcing that and more."

"This paved the way for developing a franchise centered around Monarch and anchored by Godzilla, King Kong, and other famous creatures."

All the films will be tied together by the Monarch organization, which consist of several governments that have joined forces to monitor, study and hunt Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms or MUTO's. Dr. Ishiro Serizawa (played by Ken Watanabe in the reboot) is the son of one of Monarch's earliest operatives.

"Kong: Skull Island" is currently filming, working towards a 2017 release.

Gareth Edwards' "Godzilla 2" opens in theaters on June 8, 2018.

"Godzilla vs. Kong" will release sometime in 2020.
