'Gran Turismo Sports' Release Date Announced Ahead Of Seventh Installment; 'Not A Prologue' Says Sony CEO

Sony has announced a release date for "Gran Turismo Sports"  - a game widely believed to be the prologue to "Gran Turismo 7."

According to Master Herald, it's possible that Sony is releasing "Gran Turismo Sports" instead of the latest installment of "Gran Turismo" because Polyphony Digital is still working on the seventh installment isn't finished yet.

CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Jim Ryan confirms the company isn't ready to announce "Gran Turismo 7's" release date yet. He did announced the "Gran Turismo Sports" release date and confirmed it isn't a prologue version of the seventh installment, explaning that more can be added into "GT Sports" as DLC, which was not possible in the previous prologue games of "Gran Turismo 4" and "Gran Turismo 5."

"We're not announcing Gran Turismo 7 at this stage," Ryan said in a statement published by PlayStation LifeStyle.

"Fair to say [series director Kazunori Yamauchi] has been making these games for some considerable time now. I think it's reasonable to assume that something else might come down the road. Is it a Prologue? No, I think it'll be more than that."

"The old days, when the games were offline, the experience was defined by what's on the disc. You had a distinction between a Prologue and a full GT, it was very stark. When the game becomes more of an online connected experience, that distinction blurs. This will be much more than a Prologue type experience."

Fans of the racing game have been waiting to see the release of "Gran Turismo 7" but is taking its time in development; Polyphony Digital CEO and "Gran Turismo" creator Kazunori Yamauchi, however, reassured that the game will be worth the wait.

"I think the quality of the sounds in Gran Turismo 6 will be improved, but most of the work will be done in Gran Turismo 7," Yamauchi told Eurogamer last year about "GT 7's" release date. "The high quality of data that we have being rendered on the PS4, I think is going to make an incredible difference."
