NASA may have finally solved the riddle regarding "an anomaly in deep space" that has been the subject of numerous news reports suggesting the possible existence of aliens.

Based on data obtained by a team from the Iowa State University from NASA's Spitzer Space telescope, the strange dips in lights observed from the star system KIC 8462852 were likely a "swarm of comets" and not physical structures as earlier theorized, reported CNN.

KIC 8462852 has been under intense observation since users of the online astronomy crowdsourcing site Planet Hunters discovered the unusual light fluctuations in the star.

The group relies mainly on information obtained by the Spitzer telescope, whose main task is to document the periodic dimming among stars which raise the possibility that a planet may be passing by.

The space agency explained that the telescope was only able to view the star in "visible light."

NASA's latest search, however, used infrared light, which puts into serious question the veracity of news that aliens may just be around the bend.

"It's possible that a family of comets is traveling on a very long, eccentric orbit around the star," NASA said in a statement.

"At the head of the pack would be a very large comet, which would have blocked the star's light," the statement added.

However, Iowa State Associate Professor Massimo Marengo, who led the inquiry on the unusual light fluctuations in KIC 8462852, noted that more observations still need to be done to confirm their study's conclusion.

"This is very strange star," Marengo explained. "We may not know yet what's going on around this star," adding, "But that's what makes it so interesting."

In the meantime, a video entitled "UFO at Mount Hadley" has been posted on YouTube by paranormal channel Streetcap 1, which showed a picture of the Apollo 15 during its 1971 moon landing, according to the Express.

The photo of the official NASA image, which has been available online, shows an odd shape in the background which some UFO hunters have described as "craft-like," which is generating news that aliens are among us.

"This UFO was found in an old Apollo 15 image during their moon walk," Scott C Waring, UFO Sightings Daily editor, said. "The UFO has two wings that bend downward."

"A perfectly balanced ship on both sides and its center is directly aimed at the astronauts walking on the moon," he added. "Watching them - awesome discovery."

Sceptics, however, still remain unconvinced by these kinds of NASA photos, which continue to fuel news that aliens are just waiting for the right moment to make their presence officially known.
