CL draws flak 'AGAIN' for using Quran verse in highly-controversial 'MTBD' performance, performs edited version of song in Dallas

On October 30, CL of the internationally known k-pop group 2NE1 had officially embarked on her North American solo tour for the first time and with the way she is going, it would seem that there is no stopping the singer-rapper on her way to US stardom, except maybe for a few bumps on the road.

CL's first night in New York City proved to be quite a success with many critics praising the artist who seem to be working from the ground up all in the name of hard work and success. However, after her Los Angeles concert, CL, whose real name is Lee Chae-rin, had drawn flak for using the unedited version of her song "MTBD."

Yikes!

Now if fans are wondering as to why one song could draw so much attention and criticism, then they should know that back in 2014, when MTBD was first released, it became highly controversial when several Muslims noticed how the song's background track sounded very similar to a reading of a Quran verse. Muslims took high offense at the use of their scripture for entertainment purposes. The Quran is in fact Islam's central text and is not only sacred to Muslims but is their very law.

According to Allkpop, the Korea Muslim Federation had already raised a complaint and as a response, YG Entertainment, CL's talent agency, decided to remove the part of the song that drew much controversy. Unfortunately, it is a wonder as to how the unedited version of the song became a part of the Los Angeles concert set list.

Naturally, several fans became upset with the singer, not only demanding an explanation but an apology as well, for using the controversial version of the song again. CL's social media accounts have been flooded with comments like '#cl_stop_using_our_quran' and you can definitely see that many Muslim fans have been angered. While people are yet to hear an explanation or an apology from the singer-rapper, she did in fact stray from using the original version of the song when she performed in Dallas just a few hours ago. While it may not be enough to appease those who were offended by the song and its use, it's a step in the right direction.

For CL, this may just be an unintentional error for which she is to learn from and hopefully would be reminded of the repercussions of mixing religion, music and creativity for entertainment purposes. The next leg for CL's North American tour will be in Atlanta.

TIME Magazine had recently dubbed her as the future of K-Pop in America and in a report made by The Cut, the leader of 2NE1 promised to break the stereotypes surrounding Asians.

Being a K-Pop superstar and a formidable force in the Asian music scene, CL may just be on the way to doing that.
