Meet PRISMA: The New K-Pop Girl Group With a Global Twist

As K-Pop continues to dominate the global entertainment scene, a multinational group has recently debuted in Seoul, South Korea. Meet PRISMA, UnionWave's first girl group, with its debut single "Breakout."

The five-piece girl group is made up of members from around the world: rapper Sally is a Chinese-American based in the United States, visual and lead vocals Nia is from Spain, main vocals and maknae Miriam is from Italy, while the main dancer Eunbyeol and leader Gyeongmin are from South Korea.

PRISMA makes their debut with "Breakout," which premiered last Halloween. Featuring a concept that fuses "girl-crush elements with a touch of elegance," the group members are not just introducing themselves to the industry - they are starting their career with a clear breakout.

The same concept is reflected in the song's lyrics, which are equally confident and empowering. Its chorus lines "Towards the high sky that I'm looking at, I'm going to fly, go up I high" and "Watch me, cause you can't hold me down" further captures the strong message the members are trying to get across. Additionally, its 4:05 music video highlights every member - from Sally's rap verse to Eunbyeol's dance solo.

A Multinational "Breakout" Group

In a statement to KpopStarz, UnionWave Entertainment cites the K-Pop genre's continuous growth in the previous years, as evidenced by its strong fan base across the world. To better connect with fans from other parts of the world, the record label decided to form PRISMA to introduce diversity into the industry further. As white light passes through a prism to reveal the different colors are composing it, PRISMA is set to shine just as bright, thanks to its members' distinct personalities.

Owing to its multinational members, UnionWave assured fans that "implementing other languages in PRISMA's songs will happen for sure." While both the label and the group have not yet announced its fandom's official name, fans have been calling themselves "Wawa." Additionally, in an Instagram post from Nia, she expressed gratitude to her supporters, who she also called "Wawa."

Before their debut, UnionWave released a series of "Speed Interview" videos. Each episode focused on one member - starting from Miriam, then Gyeongmin, Nia, Najung, and Sally - answering questions under five minutes. They also had to face a series of challenges, including creating a poem from their name's letters on the spot. Members also shared their "special talents," such as Miriam singing while doing a headstand or Najung saying "I love you" in different languages.
