On March 18, South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced the lineup of artists who will be performing at the upcoming "2020-2021 Korea-United Arab Emirates K-pop Festival." It was revealed that K-pop groups such as aespa, NCT Dream, MAMAMOO, and more will be presenting fantastic stages, which will definitely make the event more exciting and memorable.
Several K-pop Groups to Perform at the 2020-2021 Korea-UAE K-pop Festival
South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has joined forces with the Youth Culture Ministry of the United Arab Emirates to conduct a "Korea-UAE Cultural Exchange Event" or a K-pop festival. On March 18, the two ministries shared that the event will take place to commemorate the year of mutual cultural exchanges between South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
They also revealed the list of performing artists at the K-pop festival, and it includes six K-pop groups, specifically aespa, MAMAMOO, NCT Dream, The Boyz, ASTRO, and B.I.G. Fatima Al Hashmi, a singer from the United Arab Emirates, will also entertain the viewers.
These Korean acts are expected to entertain the viewers with spectacular performances, aiming to lead them to like K-pop which is gaining popularity in the Middle East these days. MAMAMOO, aespa, The Boyz, ASTRO, NCT Dream, and B.I.G would probably perform their recent releases or hit songs.
SM Entertainment's new girl group aespa just debuted in November 2020 with their digital single "Black Mamba," which they will most likely perform at the event. MAMAMAOO launched a new extended play, "Travel," in October last year and it contains "Dingga" and "AYA," which both entered various music charts after release.
NCT Dream also had a comeback last year alongside the other NCT sub-units to release an album as a full group. Included in the album is a track titled "Déjà Vu," performed by seven members of NCT Dream. Also last year, B.I.G released their seventh single "Illusion" in both Korean and Arabic.
Meanwhile, The Boyz released their first Korean studio album "Reveal" in February last year, and on March 17 this year, their first Japanese studio album "Breaking Dawn" came out. ASTRO, on the other hand, will make a comeback on April 5 with their second full album "All Yours."
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Korea-UAE K-pop Festival will be held non-face-to-face and aims to promote Korean content to the locals in UAE. The event will be broadcast via the "SBS KPOP" YouTube channel, Naver's V-Music channel, and "Korean Cultural Center in the UAE" YouTube channel on April 2 at noon KST.
The upcoming Korea-UAE Cultural Exchange Event is part of the "Korea-UAE Cultural Dialogue 2020," which includes a series of activities that will take place in both countries to give focus on food, music, and literature. The cultural dialogue was launched last year in celebration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
However, as most cultural events were postponed due to COVID-19, the two countries extended the celebration until this year. And the first event this 2021 will be the Korea-UAE K-pop Festival, which will be hosted by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism from March 31 to April 2, and jointly organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency and the Korea International Cultural Exchange Promotion Agency.
