DSP Media Files Appeal Against the Acquittal of Former APRIL Member Hyunjoo's Acquaintance

DSP Media announced on June 8 KST that they are in the process of filing an appeal against the decision to acquit an acquaintance of former APRIL member, Hyunjoo, who had revealed that the latter was bullied by her former APRIL members.

According to DSP Media, the reason they are filing an appeal against the acquaintance's acquittal is that there are false allegations in the article that the acquaintance wrote and that there is a false perception as the acquaintance had only heard about the matter from Hyunjoo herself. In addition, there is no final verdict that the content spread by the acquaintance is true.

"In order to clearly confirm the accountability of disseminating false information, we filed a complaint against the person mentioned as the provider of the content, and an investigation will be conducted," said DSP Media.

Back on May 19, the Seoul Gwanak Police Station was accused of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection due to an article related to APRIL's bullying allegations, which was posted by Hyunjoo's acquaintance and high school classmate on an online community back in February. The police station decided not to file the appeal, stating that the charges surrounding the crime were not recognized.

Furthermore, Hyungjoo's legal representative announced that they plan on cooperating with the investigation so that the truth about Hyunjoo and APRIL's bullying controversy can be revealed in the future.

Hyunjoo's Brother and Acquaintance Accuse APRIL of Bullying

Earlier in February, Hyunjoo's younger brother shared on an online community an article revealing the reason as to why Hyunjoo left APRIL a year after the group's debut in April 2016 and accused the group of bullying and forcing Hyunjoo to leave the group. Since then, Hyunjoo also took to her personal social media account to give her side of the story and revealed that she had been continuously harassed and abused by the group from 2014 to 2016 and that DSP Media did nothing to help the singer.

As the controversy grew, both Hyunjoo and APRIL's agency, DSP Media, took legal action, stating that Hyunjoo's claims were one-sided and distorted and that it was completely different from the facts. Afterward, a netizen who claimed to be Hyunjoo's high school classmate claimed that there was bullying within APRIL.
