From June 29 to July 5, the global K-pop fandom platform Whosfan held a poll, titled "Who is the best female/male idol that shined in the first half of 2021?"

Numerous artists who were active in the first half of 2021 were nominated for the poll, and each nominee was selected by fans from the official social media accounts of "Whosfan."

Over 700,000 global votes were recorded.

BLACKPINK member Rosé ranked at the top of the poll, beating out other nominees aespa, Dreamcatcher, Oh My Girl, ITZY, STAYC, Brave Girls, TWICE, MAMAMOO, (G)I-DLE, Weeekly, and Rocket Punch.

Rosé received 32.2% of the total votes. MAMAMOO ranked in second place, while TWICE ranked in third place.

On March 12. 2021, Rosé debuted as a soloist with her first single album, "-R-." Upon release, the music video for her title track "On The Ground" attained 41.6 million views in 24 hours, making it the most viewed music video by a South Korean soloist in 24 hours, beating out PSY's eight-year record with "Gentleman."

On the Billboard Hot 100, "On The Ground" peaked at number 70, making it the highest-charting song by a South Korean female soloist in the United States. "On The Ground" also entered the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts at number one, making it the first time a song by a Korean soloist has ever debuted and peaked at number one on these two charts.

"-R-" broke the record for the highest first-week sales by a female Korean soloist, selling 448,089 copies. On another note, Rosé earned her first-ever music show win for "On The Ground" on "Show Champion" back on March 24. After that, she went on to win five more music show wins, with a total of six wins.

ATEEZ Selected as the Best Male Idol for the First Half of 2021

ATEEZ ranked at the top of the poll among males, beating out other nominees Kang Daniel, Wonho, TREASURE, MONSTA X, ENHYPEN, NCT Dream, SEVENTEEN, TXT, ONF, BTS, SHINee, Kim Wooseok, ASTRO, and NU'EST.

ATEEZ received 28.24% of the total votes. TXT ranked in second place, while TREASURE ranked in third place.

ATEEZ made their first comeback in 2021 back in March with their sixth mini-album "Zero: Fever Part.2" with the title track "Fireworks (I'm the One)." ATEEZ took home their fifth music show win on "The Show" for the said song. Later that month, ATEEZ released their Japanese studio album "A to Z."

In April, ATEEZ competed on "Kingdom: Legendary War." ATEEZ finished the show in third place with 21,298.106 points
