Red Velvet Irene Claims She 'Learned a Lot' During Her Hiatus
Red Velvet held a live stream through V Live to commemorate the group's 7th anniversary on August 1, 2021. When asked about the girl's recent status, Irene revealed that she "learned a lot" during her period of inactivity.
Previously, Irene took a hiatus from promotions following her gapjil controversy.
During the live stream, Irene reveals that she has been working out more and learned a lot. She states that she is learning how to draw, though she does not think that she is good at drawing.
At that comment, Wendy praised Irene's drawing skills, saying she improved a lot. Irene confessed that her teacher had helped her with her drawings.

Irene then states that she has practiced her dancing more during her hiatus. The "Double Patty" star also shared that she has been into photography lately and has been taking a lot of pictures of the sky.
Irene states that ever since she learned how to draw, the composition of her photographs has changed.
The members then revealed that at the dorm, Irene is the one who does all the household chores and that their leader even made them takoyaki. Irene then revealed that she made the Japanese street food from scratch, buying all the ingredients one by one and making the dish for her members.

Irene took time to thank the members, saying that though it has only been their 7th anniversary since their debut, they have been with each other for longer.
"It is so precious to have someone whom I can share my memories with, and I am grateful that it is with the members," she says.

Irene received mixed views from her comment. Many believed that her hiatus should have been a time of self-reflection and bettering one's self, which led people to be disappointed that it appears she was simply picking up new hobbies and "enjoying life" instead of reflecting.
Some took this as a sign that Irene has not changed since her scandal. People criticized her for her careless actions, as she allegedly made it appear that she was doing well and having a fun vacation despite being slammed for her poor behavior to staff members on set.
