On Jan. 18, former GFRIEND member Yuju made her solo debut with her first solo album "REC." which features the title song "Play." She held an online press conference on the same day hours before the album's official release.
During the conference, Yuju shared how she feels about finally starting a new chapter as a solo artist. She said that GFRIEND's Yuju and solo singer Yuju are both her and that she doesn't make distinctions between the two.

She also revealed that she feels pressure on going solo as her members used to fill what she lacks but now, she has to do everything on her own.
After GFRIEND's disbandment in May 2021, Yuju signed an exclusive contract with Kang Daniel's agency KONNECT Entertainment.
The "Play" singer stated that many talented people are working at KONNECT Entertainment. She explained that they listened to her opinions well and did a great job in producing her solo album "REC."

Then, former GFRIEND member Yuju shared that Kang Daniel has been giving her a lot of support ever since she signed with his agency. She went on to reveal how the CEO and co-artist had been a big help to her while preparing for her solo debut.
Yuju said, "Last year, Kang Daniel held a live broadcast. I was playing my new song really loud in the practice room, and the sound can be heard."
She continued, "At the time, Daniel immediately took action to prevent the song from getting leaked online. He handled it very well. I heard that he covered it up as 'white noise.'"

During the online press conference for Yuju's solo debut, the female idol also showed her affection for her fellow GFRIEND members.
Yuju said that the time she spent with them has made her the person she is today. She continued that they will be precious to her forever. The soloist also shared that her former bandmates are showing her full support.

Yuju Makes Her Solo Debut with Her First Solo Album 'REC.'
On Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. KST, Yuju dropped her solo album "REC." along with the music video for the title song "Play." This marks her first release under Kang Daniel's KONNECT Entertainment and first release in eight months since GFRIEND's disbandment.
Yuju took part in writing all five songs in her solo album, including "Play." The title track is a medium-tempo pop song that conveys the differences in emotions in a relationship when one person considers it play while the other sees it genuine.
After its release, Yuju's "REC." debuted at No. 2 on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart and No. 5 on the European iTunes Album Chart. The title song "Play" also landed on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart at No. 44.
