BIGBANG G-Dragon, who is known for being a record-breaker in the K-pop scene once again set an all-time record. This time, it's completely unrelated to music, but it made headlines for creating a new history in South Korea.
GD Purchases 16.4B Won Penthouse Full in Cash
On June 3, Korean media belatedly reported that G-Dragon (real name Kwon Jiyong) of the group BIGBANG purchased his new Nine One Hannam penthouse in Yongsan-gu, Seoul this year for 16.4 billion won (13 million USD).
According to a copy of the court register released on the same day, The "Still Life" singer bought a 244㎡ penthouse from one of the most expensive housing in South Korea called Nine One Hannam.
In particular, the prices of the apartment, villa and penthouse inside this building are too expensive that only top affluent personalities can live here. Thus, earning the modifier, "Korea's Beverly Hills."

According to the report, G-Dragon paid for his new house in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul at the end of March this year IN CASH!
The male idol reportedly paid in full as well as there is no mortgage seen, signing the transaction contracts for the same amount on that day.

As if the K-pop icon paying the 13 million USD apartment in full cash wasn't shocking enough, GD also made new history by breaking the all-time highest apartment selling price in South Korea.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's actual transaction price disclosure system, the highest apartment price ever known was set by "The Penthouse Cheongdam" located in Cheongdam-dong Gangnam-gu Seoul.
On April 28 this year, the 273㎡ apartment was traded for 14.5 billion won (11.6 million USD). The "Penthouse Cheongdam" also ranked first among the highest public housing prices in 2022 for its 407㎡ apartments worth 16.89 billion (13.5 million USD).
Although GD purchased his apartment first, the sale price of the "Nine One Hannam" penthouse was not disclosed until this June. Upon confirmation, his apartment's selling price was 1.9 billion won (1.5 million USD) higher than the"The Penthouse Cheongdam."
With this, GD sets a new record. Currently, six households, including G-Dragon, are known to have traded at the same amount.
On the other hand, Nine One Hannam's penthouse is 10 households on the top floor out of a total of 341 households and has a single-story structure with a dedicated parking lot and elevators. Seven of them have found new owners, and three are still owned by the developer.
BIGBANG GDragon, also known as the "King of K-pop" is a successful singer, rapper, songwriter, producer, fashion icon and entrepreneur. With these accolades, he is said to be one of the richest K-pop idols. As of 2021, his estimated net worth is $35 million.
His songwriting royalties alone cost $700,000 per year not to mention his income from his other jobs including being luxury brand Chanel's ambassador and owner of PEACEMINUSONE.
