5 Things Viewers Didn't Like About 2022 MAMA Awards Day 1
On Nov. 29, Day 1 of the two-day 2022 MAMA Awards took place at Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan. Fans were provided with plenty of iconic moments such as the K-pop idols looking gorgeous and handsome during the red carpet event, the collaboration stage between fourth-generation girl groups, and more.
But while there was much to enjoy from the first day, many viewers have had mixed reactions or complaints about the awards ceremony. Here are the five things that viewers didn't like about the 2022 MAMA Awards Day 1.

1. 2022 MAMA Awards Being Held in Japan
One of the things that people, mainly K-netizens, complained about is that this year's MAMA Awards took place in Japan. Even weeks before the awards ceremony began, it was already receiving negative reactions from K-netizens.

Many find it confusing that the event took place overseas, particularly in Japan, even though it is a Korean awards show.
2. Having 2022 MAMA Awards Host Speak in English
Another thing that the 2022 MAMA Awards received criticism for is that they have their host, Jeon Somi, speak almost exclusively in English throughout the event. This decision was not well-received by netizens who noted the female idol's fluent Korean skills. Netizens also pointed out the awkwardness of having the MC ask questions in English while award winners and presenters answered in Korean.
Moreover, K-netizens were upset that they would have to rely on subtitles for a Korean awards show just to understand what the host was talking about. They suggested letting Jeon Somi speak in Korean and just use English subtitles.
3. 2022 MAMA Awards "Copying" the Academy Awards
K-netizens also took note of the fact that the trophies of the recipients initially didn't have their names and the category they won in, and that they had to go backstage to have it prepared by a staff member.
People think that the 2022 MAMA Awards is "copying" the Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, and so they feel "embarrassed" about it.

4. Camera Work During Performances at 2022 MAMA Awards
Viewers have raised strong concerns about the camera work on Day 1 of the 2022 MAMA Awards, especially during the performances of the artists. Many felt frustrated that the filming style did not allow them to see the artists perform up close, as it zooms out and shows the audience or stage instead.

As a result, there were dance breaks, as well as some fan-favorite choreographies and ending poses, which online viewers missed to see.

For instance, fans of LE SSERAFIM, Stray Kids, and NMIXX missed seeing the dance breaks of the groups. Some claimed that fancams of the audience members are way better than what the 2022 MAMA Awards presented.

5. Collab Stage of 4th-Gen Girl Groups at 2022 MAMA Awards
The collab stage of the leading fourth-generation girl groups- IVE, NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM, Kep1er, and NMIXX- was one of the most anticipated performances at the 2022 MAMA Awards Day 1. Fans did love their performance, but they still had a few complaints.

First, the girls mostly stood awkwardly at the back while they took turns in performing songs. Second, some say that there were girls who didn't match the concept of their performance.
Third, many are saying that the collab stage could've been better if they performed another song or anything that will leave the audience stunned. While they were happy the groups performed TWICE's iconic song "Cheer Up," fans are disappointed that the 2022 MAMA Awards just let the girls do this little when they had the best opportunity to showcase more.
