"Boys Planet" has now released its highly anticipated finale, which focused on the top 9 finalists, who are set to debut as the new K-pop boy group ZEROBASEONE.

'Boys Planet' Episode 12: Finale Announces Top 9 Contestants to Debut As New K-pop Boy Group ZEROBASEONE

"Boys Planet" is one of the most buzzworthy idol survival shows released by Mnet, who plans to create the next worldwide group.

It is the male version of "Girls Planet 999," which gave birth to rising rookie girl group Kep1er. The program placed in numerous missions, in order to narrow down who among the contestants will debut on its top nine lineup.

Contestants were first divided in two categories comprised of the K-group that has trainees in Korea, and the G-group who contained foreign trainees globally. Notably, it also included the presence of third generation idol PENTAGON Hui, who joined the program as a contestant.

The show put all trainees to the test with missions such as the "Cover Battle," "Group Battle," "Dual Position Battle," and "Artist Battle." Trainees were handled with care through the guidance of Star Masters Hwang Minhyun, Sunmi, Yeo Jin Goo, BTOB Minhyuk, SHINee Key, 2AM Jo Kwon, Jeon Somi, and Kim Jae Hwan.

In the show's previous episode 11, soloist and seventh Star Master Jeon Somi announced the rankings for their "Artist Battle" mission.

On April 17, Mnet teased viewers by revealing a partial ranking list. This ranking announced that Kim Tae Rae secured No. 11, Park Han Bin at No. 10, and Sung Han Bin at No. 3.

On the final episode of "Boys Planet," the live finale took place at the Jamsil Arena in Seoul. It was also conducted on April 20 at 8:50 p.m. KST. The finale was hosted by Hwang Minhyun, who had the honor of hosting the program's first and final episodes. Notably, he is also the first Star Master to appear.

The finale started with a live performance of the program's signal song "Here I Am," energizing the audiences in their seats. During the final episode, Hwang Minhyun announced that the new boy group's name would be ZEROBASEONE and can be simply shortened as ZB1.

The nine final members were picked through fan votes, which were made from past casting and during the live finale broadcast. The live show's votes were valued double for the final scores.
