MAMAMOO Hwasa, who was under fire for an obscene gesture during a festival performance, is drawing flak anew as she revealed she wants to do a "strip show."

On May 18, a preview video of the program tvN's "Dancing Queens on the Road" was posted on its official SNS with the message, "Hwasa doesn't hold back!"

In the video, the members talked about the things that they want to achieve during their South Korean tour when Lee Hyori revealed:

"Hwasa said she wants to do a strip show."

The MAMAMOO singer confirmed this and declared:

"We will be bold! I'm going to express everything that I haven't been able to show, here."

While fans lauded her passion and felt excitement at her desire to do a "strip show," it didn't sit well with many Koreans.

Initially, Korean fans were impressed by Hwasa's confidence, and recognized the artist's freedom of expression through unconventional performances using body movements.

However, some argued that an artistic act doesn't have to make the viewers uncomfortable, such as stating that she wants to take off her clothes during a performance.

Korean media outlets also added that if Hwasa's care for her "sex symbol" concept will continue, her related keywords will only be centered on it, affecting her reputation as a singer in Korea.

Ten Asia wrote:

"Primitive behavior without satire and humor. A performance that leaves only discomfort without artistic meaning is only subject to criticism. Hwasa is an influential 'top singer'. If she had concerns about her position or influence, she needed to look back at least once."

Meanwhile, prior to this remark, Hwasa was embroiled in a controversy after she showed an "obscene" gesture while performing.

On May 12, the "Dancing Queens on the Road" members performed at Sungkyunkwan University. During a performance, Hwasa swept up certain body parts after making a gesture like licking her hands with her tongue while sitting with her legs apart.

At that time, the audience reacted enthusiastically to Hwasa's unconventional performance. Later on, the video clips of the stage were posted on various online sites, causing controversy.

Some pointed out that Hwasa's performance was too much and that it was sensual to show on the college festival stage.

• "There is such a thing as degree, but that is too severe."
• "Please don't cross the line."
• "That is not sexy, it is low quality."

People strongly criticized that it was okay if everyone who attended were all adults,. However, the festival was also open to high school students and minors.
