MAMAMOO Hwasa Reacts To Being Sued For 'Public Indecency'

After being accused by a parent organization of "public indecency," MAMAMOO Hwasa finally broke her silence during a show appearance.

On July 15, Psy's water-themed music festival, "SUMMER SWAG 2023 - Yeosu," was held at Jinnam Stadium in Yeosu.

The idol, who recently left RBW and transferred to P NATION led by Psy, attended the formerly-known "soaking wet" show as a special guest.

Indeed, MAMAMOO Hwasa boasted charisma by performing her hits.

In between her song performances, the "TWIT" singer directly expressed her position about the "R-19" stage issue she was embroiled in, drawing attention from netizens, especially MooMoos (MAMAMOO fandom).

In particular, Hwasa, who had a sore throat at the time, confessed to the audience ahead of her final song.

"I was worried that my voice wouldn't hit the high notes. I was more worried about this than being sued."

Hwasa continued to show her "I-D-G-A-F" energy by adding:

"I think it's so fascinating to be on this stage. Things I worry about and fear are forgotten when I'm on stage."

Rather than absorbing the negative energy, Hwasa emphasized her desire to turn the controversy into her strength.

"I'll gain strength to move forward with good energy. Everyone. Are you ready for the last song? Will you go crazy?"

Summary of MAMAMOO Hwasa's 'R-19' Performance Issue, Being Sued for 'Public Indecency'

In June, MAMAMOO Hwasa, along with the other cast of tvN's "Dancing Queens on the Road," took the stage of Sungkyunkwan University's music festival as part of their South Korean tour lineup.

At the show, Hwasa, featuring Loco, performed her popular song "Don't Give It to Me." There, she made an "R-19" gesture, which led her to be accused of doing an "obscene" performance for sensationalism.

Since then, Hwasa has been accused of "public indecency" by the Parents’ Association for the Protection of Students’ Human Rights (Hakinyeon).

The Hakinyeon Association filed a complaint on the grounds that Hwasa's performance at the university festival caused discomfort to those who saw it as reminiscent of pornography.

"Hwasa's behavior is reminiscent of perverted sex, which is enough to bring shame to the public who witnessed it. It cannot be interpreted as an artistic act because it does not fit the context of the choreography."

A police official said:

"After reviewing the case, we plan to call in the defendant to investigate if necessary."

Meanwhile, an official from Hwasa's agency P NATION also responded at the time saying:

"We are internally checking the facts."
