At the "Zach Sang Show," Jessi shared why most idols are afraid of being themselves in the industry.

Jessi Reveals Reason Idols Are Scared of Being Themselves 

Jessi sat down with "Zack Sang Show" for an interview about her career, K-pop, and personal life.

During the 34:23 mark of the episode, the conversation tackled one of the most discussed topics in K-pop, which is the openness of K-pop idols. One of the interviewers, Dan Zolot asked Jessi why most artists aren't as open and honest as she is.

Jessi first started on the cultural differences between Korea and international countries. She mentioned the contrast of show variety between local and foreign areas while pertaining how people present themselves on television.

Dan: "Why isn't everybody in K-pop as open and honest as you? Is it because they don't want to? Or they're not allowed to?"

Jessi: "I feel like in Korea, it's a very conservative country. If you watch TV in America, there are so many different types of shows, right? There's reality, there's Kim Kardashian, classic surgery, CNN, there's so many diverse shows."

Jessi: "In Korea, there's only one type of show, but with different hopes. I kept saying, when you see people outside, they're not (actually) conservative. They dress like hoochie mama, and they look good, so I wondered why everyone needs to be a certain type of way on TV."

The "Gum" singer then elaborated on how most idols are scared to be themselves due to debuting at a young age.

According to Jessi, debuting early causes most idols to end up being polite in the long run, since they would inevitably keep up with the behavior to avoid shocking instances or reactions from the public eye.

Jessi: "It's not a rule, but I think people are scared. Let's say I debuted (early) and I'm like 16 or 17 years old, and I'm (politely) like 'Hi, annyeonghaeseyo!' You can't go from this and the next day you're like, 'Yo, what's up, b**ch!' You can't."

Jessi: "So they're just consistent with their behavior and I think that's what it is, and that's where I come. I've been myself from day one. If anything, I feel like I'm nicer now."
