BLACKPINK member Jisoo is famous for her royal-like visuals. However, reports have come out claiming the idol is actually a descendant of royalty! Is it true? Keep on reading for all the details.

BLACKPINK Jisoo Reportedly Royal By Blood

On December 28, a report from CTS, one of Taiwan's biggest terrestrial broadcasters, went viral. The report, which details BLACKPINK member Jisoo's lineage, started circulating on various online communities, such as FM Korea.

The report showed a description of the "FLOWER" songstress, including her full name in Chinese characters, "Kim Jisoo (金智秀)." While this looks fine at first glance, issues arose in the subsequent content.

The report explained that Jisoo's family name comes from the "Gyeongju Kim" clan. CTS then confidently included in the subtitle that she is a descendant of the Silla royal clan.

So, Is BLACKPINK Jisoo Really Royalty?

While it is correct that Jisoo's family name and her family as a whole are part of the Gyeongju Kim clan, which is affiliated with the royal surname of the Silla dynasty, there are approximately 1.88 million people all around the world with the Gyeongju Kim family name as of 2015.

Therefore, claiming Jisoo is a descendant of the Silla royal family is an overstretch and an exaggeration. If that were the case, all Kims would be members of a royal family.

Although the data is factually accurate, Koreans found the report awkward and misleading.
